Chinese New Year...Dragon Punch Art Using Stampin' Up! Punches

[Updated post from last year.] I am very excited to share with you my Chinese Dragon Punch Art for the Chinese New Year, which in 2011 is celebrated on February 3.

I design all my punch art to easily be placed on a York Peppermint Patty for party favors or small gifts of appreciation. But my punch art can be used as embellishments on scrapbook pages and on cards, as shown below. I also like to have the punch do most of the "work" meaning there are very little extra cuts using a pair of scissors.

Punch Art Creation - Caterpillar with Rhinestone Eyes

Sierra has a caterpillar of colors in her preschool classroom. Every new color they study, they are supposed to bring in something of that color to put on the large caterpillar. Sierra wants to make caterpillars for the caterpillar. Of course we will make them from Stampin' Up! punches and turn them into punch art!

Here is the one she is bringing for green.

Here are the punches we used to make her green caterpillar.

[Modern Label punch, 1 inch circle punch, 1/2 inch circle punch]

She chose Old Olive and Certainly Celery, one of the green dynamic duos listed on the Color Coach. I think she chose Certainly Celery because of the Wonder Pets. As soon as I offered "Certainly Celery" she said, "Ooo celery!"

She put together the circles with Mini Glue dots. I helped her punch and place the antenna. For instructions how to make antenna, see this post. I didn't make the antenna for the caterpillar the exact same way, but you get the idea.

A few weeks ago she got into my Basic Pearls and fell in love with the idea that they stick almost anything, so she has been wanting to make crafts with them. I offered the pearls and Basic Rhinestones. She chose rhinestones for the eyes. "I want to do it Mommy." So I helped her lift a rhinestone off the sheet with the Paper Piercing tool and she placed it holding the tool in one hand and pushed it down on the caterpillar face with her finger on the other hand.

Crazy for Cards September Class Features Day of Gratitude, Two-Step Owl Punch, Pansy Flower Technique

Gratitude Card

 

Don't send Thanksgiving cards this time of year? This card can easily be changed to a card with a different sentiment. We'll add Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink and the Top Note die behind the big flower. Uses new stamp set called Day of Gratitude found in Holiday Mini Catalog.

Pansy Card

Congratulations to UP The Best Animated Feature Film of the Year

We had Family Movie Night at the Thompson household last night. We watched UP. Just in time for the Academy Awards tonight. I was so excited when UP won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year.

What a fun, fun film! I laughed out loud many times. Sierra even laughed at the appropriate times during most of the funny scenes. She thought it was cool that the boy in the movie had the same name as her Daddy! (She's actually been saying "cool beans" lately. Yes, I am a child of the 80's, but I swear I don't say "cool beans" but maybe once a week!!!)

Here is my rendition of Mr. Carl Fredricksen's house and tribute to his wonderful adventure. I think it can be used as a congratulations card for Retirement, New Baby, New Job, new anything really.

Welcome Neighbor Designer Paper with Stenciled Clouds and Birds Using Stampin' Up! Punches

The US Census Bureau was formed on this day in 1902. Census Day in the US is April 1, 2010, but your letter is mailing now and should arrive sometime this month. You cannot fill it out online; it must be mailed in. I don't remember the Census in 2000. It was 10 years ago and I've slept since then. ;-)

Here is a card I made commemorating the US Census Bureau.

[above] I used the Extra Large Fancy Flower punch to sponge the clouds.

[above] I made a stencil by punching the flower. I then sponged around the edges in Bermuda Bay ink.

[above] I used the Small Heart punch to make the 3 birds.

[above] Punch a heart using Crushed Curry card stock and set aside to use in another project. It will not be used here.

[above] Reinsert the punched scrap into the Small Heart punch as shown above. Punch. Repeat for 2 more birds.

[above] Use Dotto to adhere to your card. Clusters of odd numbers, such as 3, are very pleasing to the eyes.

[above] Here's the card again.

I used the Welcome Neighbor designer series paper pack, which is a free item with a $50 Sale-a-bration purchase. This design already has a row of houses and trees. I just had to color coordinate the clouds and birds. Simple and fun card to make!

Happy Birthday Dr. Suess!-Card Using Big Shot and Punches

March 2, 1904 Theodor Seuss Geisel was born. He was an American writer and cartoonist most widely known for his children's books written under the pen name Dr. Seuss.

Here is my card honoring this great American author. I used the BIg Shot and punches, along with Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.

 

We don't own The Cat in the Hat yet, so we read Horton Hatches the Egg at bedtime tonight. Sierra practices saying elephant correctly. She usually says ephelant, so she is very proud when she says elephant. "I said it Mommy, I said it!"
